RCNC CCAR Recovery Coach Academy

The 1st RCNC CCAR Recovery Coach Academy Cohort!

The 1st RCNC CCAR Recovery Coach Academy Cohort!  September 26, 2015

Recovery Communities of North Carolina (RCNC) is pleased to offer CCAR Recovery Coach Academy (RCA). This training RCAis for community members who want to more effectively support the recovery initiation and maintenance of others. Recover Coaches become personal guides and mentors for people walking any recovery pathway. RCA is open to individuals in addiction recovery, family members, friends, allies, and concerned community members.

Recovery Coaching is a peer-based addiction recovery support service that is non-clinical and designed to engage others beyond recovery initiation through stabilization and into recovery maintenance. Similar peer interventions in clinical settings have been shown to improve engagement and retention of people seeking services and is effective in reducing incidents of return to use. Research also shows that long-term treatment and/or recovery outcomes are improved by assertive linkages to community-based recovery supports such as Recovery Coaching.

The NCSAPPB has approved this training for 30 SA-specific continuing education hours. UNC Behavioral Health Springboard also approves NC Certified Peer Support Specialists to use RCA to fulfill the additional training hours beyond their core 40 to become specially trained to work with folks living with substance use as a primary or co-occurring disorder.
